Radical City - Elia Montagud

After doing some research about the history of different cities, I found some data about It's growth very interesting. In this research we've seen how, in a short time, cities grew from hosting around 20% of the world population to a 50% nowadays, but we where also able to observe the issues that this increase generated in big capitals like Pekin, where the architect Yung Ho Chang claims how the city was built focusing into economic interests and forgetting about the quality of life of It's citizens.

It was also surprising finding out about the big impact that this cities take in the environment (consuming up to 75% of the energy) and the need of improving the sonstenibility of them.

Cities are the people that lives in them. Many times we forget that architecture is for this people, and not only about icons or interest points. We need to create cities where citizens can feel confortable, having a nice life and opportunities to improve their life quality.

Having said that, architecture should look to create a better community and in some cases, also an identity. This is the reason why the life of people is so important.

  4. Looking at your work, I wonder if one could design a new city starting from a new tradition.

  6. Hi, I love the idea and the way you represent it. Even if you have to (obviously) follow your tutor's instructions I'd recommend you to stick to your main ideas: TECHNOLOGY, PEACE AND DESTRUCTION. What i mean is that if your city is VIRTUAL, then design a virtual city, if it's destruction, then destroy somenthing (1 sqkm), if it's about peace, remove some citizens?. I'd also try to REPRESENT it in floor plan or cross section (if applies) or in a virtual capsule of helmet (if applies). Great Job!!!
